Hello all!
I am Dr. Tong Xi. As an Oral, Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMF surgeon) with a specialization in orthognathic surgery. I work with Dr. Jeroen Liebregts is part of the surgical team here in the Expertise Clinic for Orthognathic Surgery. My journey into the medical world started with dentistry and medicine at the Radboud University. My interest lies in the combination of surgery and medical sciences, which led me to specialize as an OMF surgeon at Radboud University Medical Center. At the same time, I delved further into academia and obtained my PhD, with a focus on the 3D analysis of mandibular heads and their role in preventing relapse after mandibular corrections (BSSO).
Orthognathic surgery, or the surgical correction of the jaw position, fascinates me. The great thing about this profession is that a balance must always be sought between improving oral functions and optimizing facial harmony; a balance between surgical thinking and a sense of aesthetics, between art and science. The fact that each operation is personalized, based on the patient's wishes and specific tooth and jaw abnormalities, makes the daily work interesting, varied and challenging.
Since I became an OMF surgeon, I have divided my time between academic work within Radboud university medical center and our clinic, outside the regular hospital setting. I also enjoy working on scientific research to introduce, validate and apply new, less burdensome and more predictable treatment techniques in daily practice. With more than 100 scientific publications to my name, I am committed to making the entire orthognathic treatment process even more efficient and predictable, with a scientific basis, where the well-being of my patients always has the highest priority. I enjoy working with foreign institutes, each with their own expertise within the field, to combine their knowledge and, as a team, provide top-level orthognathic care.
What drives me is not only the technical side of the profession, but also the personal stories and individual needs of each patient. My goal is to not only address the physical aspects of jaw abnormalities, but also to have a positive impact on the overall quality of life of my patients. I strongly believe in making decisions together and tailoring each treatment plan to individual wishes and needs.
